November 8, 2009 Concord (5-6) secured their 5th straight win after an 0-6 start, defeating rival Kannapolis A.L. Brown 13-10. This was Brown's first conference lost. Concord has not lost since they began using their amazing freshman B.J. Beecher.In a battle of undefeated 4A heavyweights, Butler won at Independence 31-24, taking advantage of 5 Independence turnovers. Marvin Ridge scored 13 unanswered 4th quarter points to defeat arch-rival Weddington 20-17. Terry Sanford defeated previously unbeaten Jack Britt 48-42 in double-OT. N. Davidson defeated Davie County 31-30 when N. Davidson's Bryce Williams scored a TD and Shawn Williams scored a 2-pt conversion on a fake extra point kick with 2:16 remaining. Hoggard overcame a 2-4 start to win their 8th consecutive Mideastern 4A title, defeating arch-rival New Hanover 16-10. With starter Sam Griffin injured, Northwood backup QB Harold Baldwin scored on a quarterback sneak on 4th down in the second overtime, as the Chargers defeated Cedar Ridge 6-0 to clinch second place in the Carolina Nine 2A conference. Ravenscroft won their first-round NCISAA playoff game 14-7 over Charlotte Providence Day, on a 4th down goal line stand with 19 seconds remaining. Clayton defeated Smithfield-Selma 13-7 when Shaquille Mangum scored on an 80-yard interception return with 38 seconds left. Knightdale won their first game of the season 13-12 over East Wake when East Wake missed a field goal on the final play. Panther Creek defeated Cary 7-3, as the Catamounts sacked Cary QB Nick Lansing on a 4th and goal play with 30 seconds left. |
