October 25, 2012 Adam Wilkinson NCPreps.com Staff Analyst Talk about it in Gridiron Talk SMAC Showdown: Burns vs. Shelby Records: Burns 7-3 overall (5-0 SMAC). Shelby 6-4 overall (4-1 SMAC) Two Cleveland Country rivals will meet for the fourth consecutive year to close out SMAC conference play, the 2012 regular season, and to determine the SMAC Champions! In 2009, the Goldens Lions handed the Bulldogs their only loss in the SMAC in it's four of exsitence, a 28-25 nail bitter. The last two years Burns has gone into the Shelby game already having clinched at least a share of the conference title, and went on to win the championship out-right. A Bulldog victory Friday night at Shelby would give Burns is third straight out-right championship. A Golden Lion victory would force a 3-way tie atop the conference with Burns, Shelby, and Freedom. To win this ball game, both teams must play extremely good sound football, and limit penalties and turnovers. Neither team can afford the mistakes they've made in costly situations previously. Shelby will be led by QB Spencer Clark, who has passed for 1,500 yards. Burns counters with QB Chris Montgomery and 1,000-yard rusher Tylan Ruff. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM Friday at Shelby High School.
