'15 WR Walton Looking for Opportunity

Coming into the Rivals Camp Series, there are several players that have offers from around the country, looking to compete against some of the best talents and prove that they are deserving of their ranking.

Then there are some that are looking to make a name for them and looking to only get better. That is exactly what William Walton from Independence high school did at Mallard Creek, as he competed and showed off what he is capable of doing for a program in the future.

The 6'1", 179 pound wide receiver has been in the background at Independence with special receivers such as Workpeh Kofa and Jamiek Davis, but now will be in the spotlight coming into his senior year.

Last year, Walton recorded 26 receptions for 491 yards and three touchdowns, with his greatest game coming against Butler high school, grabbing six catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.

NCPreps was able to go one on one with Walton, as he is looking for his recruitment to gain some excitement next year, as he is still looking for his first offer.

How has your recruitment gone overall in your eyes?

I feel my recruitment is going slow partly because I played with two highly touted senior's wide receivers in Workpeh Kofah and Jamiek Davis. A lot of the focus was on them which may be the reason my recruiting is going slower than what I expected it to.

Which schools are showing you the most interest?

"UNC Charlotte, the University of Richmond and William and Mary have shown the most interest," Walton said. "I would love to hear from Marshall, James Madison, East Carolina, Wake Forest and Appalachian State."

What have you been working on over the offseason?

"I have been working on my speed and overall core balance. Getting stronger is always one of things that I focus on to. Last year I was squatting 275, this year already at 435."

What are your strengths and weaknesses on the field? Anything you are trying to work on?

"I am a precise route runner that can read defenses while in the process of running routes. I am able to find the open wholes in a defense and get myself open. Since my freshman year I have only had four dropped balls, so catching that ball is a big strength."

"Blocking is also something that I do very effectively. Currently I am working on being a little more aggressive in dealing with defenders while interacting with them downfield and at times off the line of scrimmage."

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what kind of player would you describe yourself as?

Coachable

What do you think you could provide on the field to a college team looking at you?

"I am a team player first. It is often said that WR's are about themselves, I want to win and always realize that sometimes the other guy will get the catches. I can provide a team with a WR that studies hard and is always prepared on game day."

"I will give 100% and do exactly as instructed by the coaches; running routes, blocking, playing special teams or whatever it takes to be on the field."

Walton has the physical attributes to be a very good wide receiver, as he attacks the ball at its highest point and has great hands, as he displayed this past weekend at the Rivals Camp in Charlotte. Now, he is just looking for that program to take a chance on him.

Recently, Walton had informed that Appalachian State reached out to him and have been looking at him closely, but he is hoping that his hard work and ability will pay off at the end.

Independence should be near the top again next year and will be heavily depended on Walton to perform as one of their top receivers on the team, something that he welcomes and looks forward to in his last year in high school.
