2A Boys Hoops Preview: Southern Vance

2016 Record: 19-8

The Raiders finished 2nd in conference regular season and won the conference tournament (first conference title since 2008). They also are coming of the first playoff appearance since 2008. Southern will return potential 4 starters and only graduated 2 seniors.

Returning key players:

Marcus Harrison averaged 16 pts, 6 rebs and was named all conference as a freshman. He shot 50% from the field and scored a career high 36 points in the Christmas tournament.

Justus Baldwin averaged 17 pts, 4 rebs and was named all conference as a sophomore. He potentially could eclipse 1000 points this season.

Zamari Ellis averaged 8 rebs and 2 blks a game as a sophomore. He will be a Division 1 Power 5 football commit. He is expected to be a defensive anchor and control the paint for the Raiders.

Corey Baldwin started 23 games as a freshman and averaged 6 pts and 4 rebs. He displayed versatility as a slasher and 3-point shooter. He scored 24 point in the conference championship game.

Shamond Lyons played big minutes as the back-up pg as a sophomore. He is expected to be a floor general and a major defensive presence on the perimeter.
