2005 Outlook: The Cavaliers will be looking to rebuild on young, inexperienced talent. The Cavalier offense has 3 starters returning and all 3 are on the Offensive Line. The Cavalier defense will also have only 3 starters returning. There is still plenty of good, young talent, but inexperience is the word from Cavalier camp. The outlook must me patience early with this young, inexperienced team and be ready for the Mid-State Conference play beginning in October. The Cavaliers will still be a conference favorite. Look for the Cavaliers to get better as the season progresses and still be a factor in the 2A playoffs.

ZANE COOPER (LB, 5-11, 175)…. C.J. WILSON (LB, 5-9, 210)…. MICHAEL THOMPSON (DB, 5-9, 150).
JUNIORS: DWIGHT JONES (WR/DB, 6-4, 190) - ALL-CONFERENCE - ALL-AREA - He had 57 tackles, 7 interceptions, 6 sacks, and 3 fumbles caused last season. He will be the leader of the defense. 2005 Outlook: I hope we continue to strive to being a better team. Put the rebuilding behind us and move on. The Freshmen are now Sophomores, and they have to remember last year; but not dwell on it. They know what varsity football is about and now it's time to perform. We are now out of 3A, and into 2A. 2A is a harder league than 3A, so it's not going to be easy.

His passion for the game burns from the 1st to the 4th quarter....BRANDON HERRING (WR. 6-1, 170, 4.6) - He rushed 11 times for 204 yards last season; good hands....BRANDON DAVIS (WR, 5-9, 156, 4.6) - On JV, he ran 34 times for 1,013 yards with 11 TDS, and had 10 INTS as a DB; very explosive.
JUNIORS: TIM KORNEGAY (QB, 6-2, 205, 4.5) - He had 1,861 passing yards with 30 TDS (he ran for 5 TDS); great speed and strong.

2005 Outlook: The year for us could go in either direction. Defensively, we should be pretty good. Offensively, our season will depend on the development on the supporting cast around Tommy Henry. SENIORS: VANTREL ENGLAND (QB/S, 6-4, 180, 4.6) - ALL CONFERENCE at SAFETY - He should be the QB, but played defense as a junior. On Defense, he had 7 INTS....ALEX WILSON (OL/LB, 6-1, 195, 4.6) - He is a returning MLB, who had 131 contacts, 3 INTS, and 3 FB Recoveries last season. He will lead the Defense in 2005....JARRETT TANNER (OL/DL, 6-4, 215, 5.1) - He is one of the few players returning with game experience on Offense and Defense Lines. He could start at C or T....ERIC GOODSON (OL/DL, 6-4, 210, 4.9) - ALL CONFERENCE - He is the best returning lineman. Strength: The strengths of this year's team will be the Offensive and Defensive Lines. They are big and strong. We should have enough players to have some depth. Our QB is back and our RB is returning, also. They will have decent speed and game experience from last year.
Weakness: Finding a punter and a kicker will be one of the top priorities. We have a punter moving up from the JV team that did a good job for them the last couple of years. A kicker will be a different story. We will need to fill some spots at the inside and outside Lber positions. Although our numbers should be improved over the last couple of years, we will need to build some depth at some positions.

2005 Outlook: Last season was a roller-coaster ride for our team. We started the year out 4-0. In the fourth game of the season, we lost our QB to a season ending knee injury. From that point, we were 2-5 in the remaining regular season games. We did qualify for the state playoffs, which is a credit to our coaches and kids. After we lost our QB, we lost several other key kids to injury. Had those devastating injuries not occurred, our 2004 season possibly could have been more successful. Most of the injuries occurred to our junior and sophomore classes. This off-season they have been hard at work to come back this year and have a better season. But, along the way this year, we have a tough schedule and as always, our conference looks to be tough again. The frontrunners are Owen, Hendersonville, Polk, and Avery. We can't look past Mountain Heritage or Madison. Both are programs that are on the rise and could easily earn a playoff berth this year.
