Southeast Raleigh returns to the NCHSAA women's basketball championship for the second straight year and third time overall.The Bulldogs played in 1999 4-A final, when Ansley Bienvenu hit long three-pointer with 0.2 seconds left to go to lift Southeast to a 68-65 triumph over McDowell to cap 29-1 season. Southeast fell to Myers Park 61-46 in last year's 4-A championship, so this is a rematch.The Bulldogs defeated Wilmington Hoggard 49-35 in Eastern Regional final, with Amber Richardson scoring 17 and getting nine boards to earn regional MVP honors. TOP PLAYERS:
Richardson who averages 14 ppg has signed with North Carolina StateJade Phillips (16 ppg, 10 rpg), who also earned all-regional tournament honors, has signed to continue her career at Syracuse.Jada McMillian adds 8 ppg and hands out four assists. NOTES: The Bulldogs have won or shared last seven Greater Neuse River regular season crowns. Southeast was ranked 10th in state in final 4-A women's regular season NCPreps.com poll, and was second seed in 4-A East bracket. The Bulldogs lost in 2013 regional final to eventual state champ Raleigh Millbrook.

Myers Park makes its second consecutive appearance in an NCHSAA women's basketball title game. The Mustangs are defending state champions after a 61-46 victory over Southeast Raleigh in last year's 4-A final to complete a 30-1 season.They knocked off top-seeded and previously unbeaten Northwest Guilford 58-38 in Western Regional final in Greensboro, after giving Winston-Salem R.J. Reynolds its only loss in regional semifinals. The Mustangs have won their conference regular season title four years in a row. TOP PLAYERS:
Aliyah Mazyck who averages 14.5 ppg and 4.0 assists was Player of the Year in the conference. Mazyck is headed to Southern Cal. Rydeiah Rogers, an all-conference performer averages 9.8 ppg and 10.8 rpg. She was the MVP of last year's state championship and will further her career at N.C. State. Chanin Scott averages 12.0 ppg and 8.9 rpg. She was an all-conference selection. Senior Morgan Uptegraff (7.8 ppg) has committed to Queens University. NOTES: The Mustangs have lost only 4 games in the last 4 years. The team plays tough man to man defense while playing uptempo offense, averaging 61 points a game while giving up only 30. Myers Park was ranked first in final 4-A women's regular season poll by NCPreps.com and was third seed in 4-A Western bracket. The Mustangs have been nationally ranked this year.

Garner is in the NCHSAA men's basketball state finals for the second time overall, but the last time was in the Class B championship in 1936, where Garner lost. The Trojans knocked off Raleigh Millbrook in exciting 84-81 game to earn Eastern Regional crown, avenging loss to Millbrook in December in the Holiday Invitational and rallying from 14 down. TOP PLAYERS:
Power forward Alex Reed was selected as Eastern Regional MVP with 24 points (9 of 14 FG) and 12 rebounds in championship. His season averages are 9.8 ppg and 6.0 rebounds.Thomas Allen leads the team is scoring at 17.4 ppg and is great shooter who earned all-conference honors. Allen made the all-Regional tournament team.Senior point guard Julius Barnes who averages 14.2 ppg, team-high 7.1 assists, and 2.7 steals was Greater Neuse Player of Year. He was named to the all-Regional team. Jashaun Smith knocks in 14 ppg and grabs 7.0 rebounds. Garner has won three of last four league titles. The team loves to run, averaging 80 ppg while giving up just 58. The Trojans were ranked third in state in final 4-A men's regular season NCPreps.com poll and entered playoffs as the top seed in the East. Veteran coach Eddie Gray has over 450 career victories in 26 years, with his teams winning 14 league titles and making 21 playoff appearances.

Ardrey Kell, a relatively new school which has quickly established an excellent athletic program, makes its first trip to an NCHSAA state men's basketball championship. The Knights won a thriller at the buzzer in Western Regional final, nipping West Charlotte 52-50.The team won SoMeck 8 Conference championship and Michael Craft was SoMeck 8 Conference Coach of the Year. TOP PLAYERS:
6-3 guard Stephen Santa Ana, who was the SoMeck 8 Conference Player of the Year, was selected as the regional tournament MVP. He has excellent numbers 15.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 3.0 assists, and shoots 44% from the floor. He has signed with Elon.Devin Cooper (9.5 ppg), and Rhyle Scott (11.1 ppg, 6.9 rpg) each earned all-conference honors. Cooper is headed to Radford University. Josh Freund (9.7 ppg, team-leading 8.1 rpg) has signed with Randolph College. NOTES: The Knights reached the regional semifinals in 2014, finishing 24-7 after losing to Lake Norman. Ardrey Kell is riding a 27-game wining streak, including 2014 Hoodie's House High School Hoops Classic (Rhyle Scott - tournament MVP). Ardrey Kell was the top-ranked team in final 4-A men's regular season poll by NCPreps.com and the number-one seed in the 4-A Western bracket.
