Avion Pinner: Turning Small Town Production Into Major Recruitment

Avion Pinner comes from a town of 5,500, but that has not stopped him from developing into one of the premier juniors in the state of North Carolina. Right now, the Williamston, NC native is averaging 25.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.0 blocks per game for a Riverside High School team that is undefeated and ranked among the state’s best 1A programs.

“Each time I step on the floor, I want to be a leader, I want to take over and try to make all my teammates better.” Pinner continued, “I am like a point forward type, try to be able to do it all on the floor.”

This type of floor game has garnered a lot of college attention, as well as current offers from East Carolina and FIU.

In His Words

East Carolina: “I talk to the Head Coach, Joe Dooley, as well as Coach George Wright. I love their play style; they play defense and Coach always has them playing hard.”

FIU: “I talk with Coach Bopp there. I haven’t seen them play yet, but from what he tells me I am excited to.”

Pinner’s Recruitment Continued

I feel like Wake Forest may offer soon, Georgia State. I’m going to keep working for Auburn, NC State, Providence, Miami and Clemson.” Pinner continued,

“They all really like my game, they just want to build a strong relationship with me.”

As for the season, Pinner has some goals in mind that he wants to achieve.

“I would like to go deep in states and along the way reach my 1,000 point mark (at 762) and win Conference Player of the Year.”

Rivals Reaction

Pinner has a basketball players frame, from the broad shoulders to the length arms and the athletic frame, he looks the part. Throughout the game, you notice him taking on a leadership role, speaking up to his guys and communicating in a very positive way. As a player he does a bit of everything, as you can see by his stat line. In this game, Pinner was 3-5 from three and he finished above the rim with some monstrous dunks. It is still to be seen where he ends up positionally as his skill set and size can take him into a number of directions (3 and D wing, mismatch 4, etc…). With that being said, you cannot ignore the production and his demeanor on the floor was very positive here.
