With media outlets, college coaches, college scouts and College Bound coaches in attendance, athletes will be tested individually in the 40-yard dash, pro agility shuttle run, L drill, vertical jump, broad jump, pass rush, pass block, lineman challenge and one-on-one drills.
"Through the individual combine, athletes can get evaluated on a one-on-one basis," said CEO of College Bound Athletics Corey Alexander. "You get your times for the events that you do. It gives you an opportunity to be evaluated on where you are and it's a great way for the coaches in attendance to really see you firsthand and get a grasp on each athlete individually."
Following the combine, athletes are invited to join the 7on7 tournament, coming individually to be placed into teams, or with a seven-man team of their own. The tournament will be randomized in a playoff system that begins Saturday, April 26 and finishes the final rounds on Sunday.
Alexander says he grew the idea of the Carolinas Exposure Weekend because of the impressive talent in the Charlotte, N.C., and surrounding areas.
"The talent in this region is so great that there aren't enough scouts and recruiters to have a chance to see every athlete," he said. "By hosting a camp in the North and South Carolina area, it gives so many more athletes the chance to be seen."
"This camp is for any and every athlete who wants to compete, whether they are a five-star or an unknown guy," Alexander said. "It's a great opportunity for everyone to get a little more exposure, especially for the people who haven't been in a setting to where they could compete or play."
College Bound Athletics is expecting more than 30 7on7 teams in attendance and just as many college coaches in attendance. The tournament setup includes quarterback, receivers and running backs, with the defense consisting of linebackers and defensive backs. Rushing and blitzes won't be permitted.
Seven on seven teams will be randomized in a playoff format, so that each team has an equal opportunity to make it to the final 7on7 game.
"The draw for the whole weekend is the exposure," Alexander said. "There is a lot of opportunity to be seen in a far greater capacity than they would individually during the season."
Alexander understands the recruiting process because he went through it too when he was in high school. A two-sport football and track athlete at the University of Tennessee, his desire for CBA is to help athletes get an education and play the sport they love, no matter the school.
"This camp is a way for guys who thought they never had a chance, to realize that they actually can play at the next level," Alexander said. "CBA is all about having those farfetched dreams, because dreams are possible and they come true every day."
The Carolinas Football Exposure Weekend welcomes high school football players all over the southeast and will be held at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. For more information, visit COLLEGE BOUND ATHLETICS
