Ron Sanchez and his Charlotte basketball program picked up their first commitment of the 2021 recruiting class with Panther Creek High (Morrisville, NC) Daylen Berry committed on Tuesday. Berry chose Charlotte over offers from the likes of Wilmington, James Madison, George Mason, Wofford, Fairfield, Loyola-Chicago, St John's, FIU, East Tennessee St and more.

What he Said:

“It was the family feel and the school really. I felt the love from day 1. Being in a city is great for what I want to major in, also with Coach Sanchez bringing in that UVa style of play, I think I'll thrive in that."

Why We Like Berry:

As you can see from his offers sheet, Berry has a lot about his game to like. During his junior year Berry averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Where Berry really excels, and what makes this commitment so attractive, is his versatility on the defensive end of the floor. He has great length and anticipation both on and off the ball, which pairs well with his quick twitch hands and feet. On the offensive end, Berry is a nice combo guard. He has a nose to score the ball, especially when getting downhill and getting out in transition. Berry is a solid shooter and should really play well in this identity Sanchez is bringing on offense and the stout pack-line defense.
