Holloway Quickly Goes from Freshman Orientation to Sophomore Standout

As someone who lives in North Carolina, it is easy to get fired up about the upcoming 2023 class. Just as the 2016 class was previously, some players have already made their mark on the national level, and others are still blooming ready to strike.

One player who is stuck in limbo between these two spots is 6’1” 2023 Aden Holloway of Charlotte, NC/Covenant Day School. Holloway has already created a name for himself, he picked up his first offer, Syracuse, the summer between his 8th and 9th grade year. However, his name has been left off the national listings of the 2023 class to this point.

He went on to play his freshman season and put in some serious work averaging 18 points on 42% from three and 3.1 assists per game. These are gaudy stats for someone who was previously playing middle school basketball.

“He was put in a tough spot last year. As a freshman he was thrown into the fire as our starting PG and leading scorer.” Head Coach Marty Parrish continued, “That’s tough considering he was just five months out of middle school. That being said, he flourished, exceeding all expectations.”

You look on the floor and see a player poised beyond his years. A player with a full bag of tricks, getting to his spots off the bounce, shooting to 28-feet off the catch, finishing with craft and touch around the basket. It is no wonder why Winthrop and Virginia Tech joined Syracuse in early offers.

“His game as shifty. He changes speed and direction well. He has the ball on a string and is one of the elite shooters in the state, and country.” Parrish said of his point guard, “Bottom line, he is a great player but a better person. He will make ripples in the world and people will be better because of him.”

Now Holloway passed his freshman orientation, what can we expect from him during his sophomore year, Parrish says, “As for our season, get your popcorn ready.”
