ROCKY MOUNT - West Montgomery head football coach B.W. Holt will be named as Rocky Mount Senior High's next head football coach next week according to a report by the Rocky Mount Telegram.
Upon official approval from the Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education next week, Holt is expected to finally fill a coaching void left vacant when then newly-named West Virginia native Danny Kinder resigned unexpectedly from the post in mid-May.
Holt, who reportedly prefers to run the winged-T offense, will come to RMSH after three seasons at 2-A West Montgomery (5-7 in 2002), his high school alma mater. The Pembroke State (now called UNC-Pembroke) graduate has had previous coaching stints at Franklinton, Starmount and Tennessee High School in Bristol, Tn.
It was at 1-A Starmount where Holt got a winning tradition going. In 18 seasons there (1979-97), Holt was an impressive 174-49-2 while winning 12 conference titles and the Rams advanced to 1-A final four four times. At Tennesse High (1998-2000), he was 19-14.
Holt will also be an assistant coach for the North Carolina squad in the N.C.-S.C. Shrine Bowl Game in December. Holt also has a connection to the Rocky Mount area. Current Northern Nash principal Dr. Art Paschal was his principal at West Montgomery during the 2001-2002 school year.
