Mike Minter, a former NFL Pro Bowl star from the Carolina Panthers, has resigned as the head football coach of Concord (N.C.) First Assembly Christian.

Minter, who led the Eagles to a 33-4 record and back-to-back NCISAA Division 2 state championships, will be the new associate head coach at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.
Minter will also serve as the co-defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and defensive back coach for the Golden Bulls.
"It's a tough situation to leave after being there three years," Minter said. "I helped build that program with two state championships and sent 12 kids to college.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to coach at the next level. One of my ultimate goals is to win a national championship as a coach."
Minter won two national championships as a player at Nebraska back in 1994 and 1995 under coach Tom Osborne.
With the departure of Minter from First Assembly, the question arose about the future of his son, Michael Minter, Jr., who was a standout running back for the Eagles the last two seasons.
"Michael will be moving in with his grandparents and attending North Star High School in Lincoln (Neb.)," Minter said. "It's a public 4A high school and he is already considered one of the fastest kids in the state."
Minter, Jr., who will be a rising junior, ran for over 1,500 yards with 18 touchdowns last season.
"I wanted someone else to coach him," Minter said. "I will be flying between Charlotte and Lincoln constantly to watch him play."
