1. Winston Salem Prep 20-8 - returns a lot of talent off state runner-up team
2. Voyager Academy 29-3 - features one of the top 2016 players in NC in Virginia commit Jay Huff
3. Lincoln Charter 24-7 - has a lot of returning talent and depth to make a run at a title
4. East Caretet 28-2 - loss some fire power to graduation but the defending state champs still will be in the hunt
5. Riverside Martin 19-6 - features 3 returning starters & 9 players with varsity game experience and good size
6. Hayesville 21-6 - features Appalachian State commit Zach Cottrell and company
7. North Stokes 11-14 - returns 4 out of 5 starters and leading scorer
8. Bishop McGuiness 15-10 - coached by John Thompson the Villians are poised for a big year
9. Albemarle 26-1 - legendary coach Al Andrew retired, but Albemarle still has talent from undefeated JV team
10. Avery County 20-9 - return 5 seniors, 3 juniors, and a sophomore plus experience from 1A West Regional team
10. Queens Grant 16-9 - return 6'8 Columbia commit Patrick Tape and company

1. East Lincoln 24-1 - lost in state title game return four major starters including the Surratt brothers
2. Clinton 18-7 - team is loaded and returns 6 key pieces plus 6 talented newcomers - nice size and depth
3. Lincolnton 18-7 - features young returning starters and 7ft Raekwon Long (FIU commit)
4. North Rowan 19-7 - they will make another title run
5. Forest Hills 20-7 - returns 4 starters and the conference player of the year and all-state player
6. Northside-Jacksonville 25-2 - features Robert Colon and company
7.Midway 18-8 - returns 3 starters and 6 players with varsity experience
7. Dixon 9-17 - don't let the record fool you as they return a lot of starters and are deep in talent and size
8. North Surry 21-5 - young talent will make noise
9. Goldsboro 21-5 - they have talent and experience not a team to sleep on
10.Kinston 26-4 - they are the defending champs and will reload
10. Cummings 19-7 - a lot of returning talent and experience
3A
1. Concord 17-8 - features the top sophomore in the state and #15 in the country in Rechon Black
2. Terry Sanford 27-3- last year's state champ
3. Jay M Robinson 19-6 - they played 4A last year in the toughest conference and feature top junior Lavar Batts
4. Crest 23-5 - bring back talent and experience from a winning program
5. Cuthbertson 22-6 - looks to build off last season's playoff run
6. Hickory 20-4 - will play #1 in the nation Oak Hill at their house
7. Kings Mountain 16-10 - they have twin towers who will be a problem
8. Weddington 24-5 - good talent and winning program every year
8. West Brunswick 25-4 - great Coach and always in the thick of things
9. Havelock 15-10 - they have Kyran Bowman, one of the state's most deadly scorer
10. Cox Mill 19-6 - features the top freshman in the state and country Wendell Moore, Jr.
10. North Forsyth 15-10 - they have experience and playing in a tough conference will have them ready for their season

1. North Mecklenburg 23-4 - returns a lot of talent on a deep squad of D1 talent
2. Millbrook 26-3 - good size, experience, and coaching
3. Butler 23-4 - returns a lot of talent & #4 scorer in the whole state
4. West Charlotte 24-4 - reload as always and has tough-nose team who will show and prove
5. Broughton 23-3 - talent & great coaching
6. Knightdale 19-7 - returns two high caliber players
7. Northwest Guilford 23-5 - returns young talent and should make a deep run come playoffs
8. Southwest Guilford 20-5 - features young talented duo mixed with experience
9. New Hanover 17-9 - returns a lot of experience and talent
10.Hoggard 22-7 - good coaching and good inside out tandem
10. Garner 28-1 - the defending champs have some good size and have some pieces to have another good season
Notes: Some teams will start the season without football players and get stronger as the season goes. Don't be shocked if a team drops one ranking and then bounces back later on in the season. NCPreps.com will be doing individual articles on certain teams with more in depth coverage.
