NCPreps.com Spotlight: Charlie Mensh

Charlie Mensh, a 5-10 165 pound Class of 2019 quarterback from R.J. Reynolds High in Winston-Salem (NC) is coming off a great season for the Demons. Mensh was one of the key offensive players in helping the team make the state playoffs this past season. He has been getting some college interest and plans to make 2018 an even better season for him and his teammates.

How did your season go?

“Our season went well. I passed for almost 2,000 yards with 16 touchdowns. Our team went from 1-10 the previous year to the 4A state playoffs in 2017.”

What honors or awards did you receive?

“I received the Danny O’Brien Player of the Week in August 2017 for passing for 306 yards with 4 touchdowns against Atkins.”

What are your strengths on the field?

“My strengths on the field are I elude pass rushers. I feel my best strength is that I can throw on the run as well as seeing the field.”

What other sports do you play?

“I’m a two-year varsity basketball player and 2018 conference champion.”

What schools have shown interest in you?

“Schools in regular contact include University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Furman, Washington University, Bucknell, Williams, Rhodes, with Junior Day and camp invites to Dartmouth, Brown, Rochester and others.”

What player do you model your game after and why?

“I model my game after Drew Bees because he is a smaller quarterback. He is extremely accurate and he is who I like to play like.”

What are your plans for the off-season?

“My off-season plans are to get stronger, gain some weight, but also get faster. I plan on getting ready to be more of a dual threat this coming year. I plan to do off-season training at RJR and 7-on-7 with the Charlotte-based Carolina Stars coached by former Duke QB Anthony Boone.”

What are your goals on the field for 2018?

“Win the conference and make a deep run in the state playoffs because I think we have the team that can do it.”
