There are many intangibles needed to be a great wide receiver. Speed, elusiveness, and sure hands are a must, everything that Ashe County (NC) Wide Receiver Grant Thompson possesses. The 6'2 193-pound athlete from West Jefferson, NC has dominated opposing defensive backs for two seasons now.

During his junior campaign, Grant tallied 64 catches for 1,099 yards and 9 touchdowns. The versatile Thompson actually began his career as the backup varsity quarterback his freshman and sophomore year. He credits his time under center to his success as a pass catcher. Thompson understands the progressions a quarterback must go through as well as the dissection of various defensive sets. This particular skill set allows Thompson to not only beat defensive backs with his athleticism, but with his high football IQ as well.

Unfortunately, Ashe County (NC) didn't receive a bid in the NCHSAA playoffs and the illustrious high school career of Grant Thompson has ceased. However, he finished with 73 receptions for 1,030 yards and 9 touchdowns on the season. Grant Thompson is a vertical, deep-threat receiver with exquisite hands. Despite his 6'2 frame, he gets out of his cuts relatively quick and can beat a cornerback on the double move. Thompson currently holds offers from The University of Illinois, Coastal Carolina University, and Bluefield College. In the right program, Grant Thompson can have a similar college career to that of former Northern Guilford (NC) WR Maurice Harris from the class of 2011.
