NCPreps.com Spotlight: Nathan Edwards

Whiteville (NC) OL Nathan Edwards is a behemoth left tackle that keeps his quarterback's jersey clean every Friday night. The 6'4 310-pounder from Whiteville, NC has started every game for the Wolfpack for the past two seasons now. Nathan Edwards' play is a key reason why the Whiteville (NC) Wolfpack sit at 8-1 on the year with hopes of making a deep run in the NCHSAA 2A State playoffs starting next month.

We all know offensive lineman do the dirty work in the trenches all game yet receive little to no praise for it afterwards. Edwards anchors an offensive unit that has averaged 41 points per game and allowed fewer than 6 sacks on the year. Every fan and anyone dealing with Wolfpack football knows that "Big Nate" is an important reason why they are successful. He isn't a one-dimensional player either. When he's not pancaking players on the offensive line, Edwards serves as the team's nose tackle on defense.

Edwards has deceptively quick footwork that allows him to reach his next level blocks with ease. He shoots out of his stance with power and good balance. He repositions his hands on a defender to remain in control of all his blocks. You may not see an eye-popping stat line from Nathan Edwards on Friday nights or see him score the game winning touchdown. However, his strong play and leadership on and off the field makes him an irreplaceable player.

How is your season going?

“The season is going good, we are currently tied for second place at 8-1 in our conference and are currently chasing that first-place spot.”

What are your season stats?

“Offensively, I have over 12 pancake blocks on the year. On defense, I've recorded 15 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.

What are your strengths on the field?

“My strengths on the field is my run blocking ability. My team is mainly a rushing team and my main responsibilities are run blocking. My pass blocking isn't bad at all but due to our lack of passing it can use some improvement."

What schools are interested in you?

“I'm currently receiving heavy interest from several Division 2 schools such as Wingate, Catawba, Chowan, UNC-Pembroke as well as Greensboro College and Methodist University.”

What separates you from others at your position?

"I work hard on every snap and do my best to protect my quarterback and my other teammates on the field. I believe a coach should recruit me because I am hardworking and willing to do whatever it takes to help my team succeed."
