Mallard Creek (NC) sophomore defensive back J’Trell Washington is a blazing fast cornerback with active hands.

The 5’9, 160-pounder from Charlotte, NC contributed on special teams as well as his natural cornerback position for the 4AA State Runner-up Mallard Creek Mavericks.

With his junior campaign approaching, Washington believes he has one particular skill that sets him a part from others in his recruiting class.

“I believe I’m the fastest DB in North Carolina for the class of 2020,” Washington told NCPreps.

His claim does not come without some supporting facts, as Washington is a standout performer on the track. A sprinter, Washington has already recorded impressive times of 22.51 and 49.64 in the 200m and 400m dash, respectively.

An explosive runner, Washington’s speed and long strides translates well on the gridiron. His recovery speed warrants precaution, and his tackling ability cannot be measured by his stature.

“One of my strengths on the field is my open field tackling ability. I am not afraid to hit anyone.”

With spring workouts commencing, Washington says his focus is geared towards doing all he can to help his team reach the NCHSAA 4AA State Championship again, expect with a different result.

“Last year, our only loss came in the State Championship game. I can’t wait to help my team get back there and win it all this year,” he explained.

A versatile athlete, Washington is just as versatile in the classroom, boasting a 3.25 GPA as an honor roll student.

His fast feet and active hands will stand out at first glance. However, Washington’s instincts and ball skills are attributes that make him an intriguing prospect to watch in the class of 2020.

“ I can play all over the field. I am willing to contribute to my team in any way to help us win.” – J’Trell Washington
