7).The 8 First Round Western 1AA Playoff Matchups!
--------------------------------------------------
#16 South Stokes(2-9) @ #1 Thomasville(11-0)-The Sauras are no strangers to facing the top seeded teams when the playoffs begin. In fact, this will be the 4th time in the last 5 years that South Stokes has played the 1AA's top seeded team in the first round. Unfortunately, the Sauras have lost by a combined 150-0 in their last 3 matchups with the top seeded 1AA team. Thomasville is riding the longest 1A winning-streak(16gms) in the state, and have beaten this year's 11 opponents by an average score of 40-6!
#15 Cherryville(2-9) @ #2 Murphy(8-3)-Both of these teams appear to be headed in opposite directions. The Bulldogs are seeded 2nd for the first time since the 2001 1AA playoffs, and have won 6 consecutive SMC games as the 1AA playoffs begin. The Ironmen have lost 7 consecutive games, and will be making their first playoff trip to Murphy this coming friday.
#14 Midway(3-7) @ #3 Avery County(9-2)-Both of these teams will be playing thier first 1AA Western playoff game this friday in Newland. Midway finished as the last place team in the Super-6 Conference, losing their last 5 games. This will be the Raiders first appearance in the Western 1AA playoffs. The Vikings are the Co-Champions of the WHC, and are also making their first appearance in the Western 1AA Playoffs.
#13 Hendersonville(5-6) @ #4 East Surry(10-1)-This will be the Bearcats 3rd trip to Pilot Mountain since 2001. East Surry won the previous 2 playoff meetings with the Bearcats in 2001(21-7) and 2002(35-12). The Cardinals are the Co-Champions of the NWC, while the Bearcats are coming-off an upset victory over Polk County last friday in Columbus.
#12 North Moore(6-4) @ #5 West Montgomery(8-3)-This will be the first-ever 1A playoff meeting between these fellow YVC members. However, these teams played on OCT 14th @ West Montgomery, and the Warriors shutout the Mustangs 46-0!
#11 Polk County(8-3) @ #6 West Columbus-The Vikings moved-down from the 2A class after realignment, and will be making their first appearance in the 1AA Western playoffs. The Wolverines are the only WHC team to have beaten 2A Owen, but suffered a 13-7 setback to Hendersonville last week. This will Polk County's first trip to the East for a Western 1AA playoff game. The Vikings finished 2nd in the Southeastern Conference, and have won thier last 3 games by an average score of 42-16!
#10 West Wilkes(7-4) @ #7 Mount Airy(10-1)-This will be the first 1AA playoff meeting between the Blackhawks and the Granite Bears. However, these NWC foes met back on Oct 21st in Mount Airy, and the Granite Bears shutout the Blackhawks 16-0 in that NWC meeting.
#9 Albemarle(6-5) @ #8 Jordan-Matthews(6-5)-Both of these teams are former YVC foes. The Bulldogs and the Jets finished 3rd in their respective conferences, and these teams have never met before in the 1AA playoffs. In fact, the Jets participated in the Eastern 1AA playoffs in each of the last two years. This will be the Jets first-ever Western 1AA home playoff game, and their first home playoff game since a 45-27 loss to Topsail in the 2002 Eastern 1AA 1st round. Albemarle won the last meeting between these two teams(36-12) on Sept 10th 2004 when the teams were members of the YVC.

---------------------------------------------------
#16 East Montgomery(1-9) @ #1 Elkin(10-1)-This will be the 2nd time in the last 3 years that Elkin will begin the 1A playoffs as the #1 seeded Western 1A team. This will also be the first Western 1A playoff meeting between the Eagles and the Bucking-Elks. The Eagles have been shutout 5 times this season, while Elkin's defense has recorded 6 shutouts on the 05' season to lead the 1A class in that category.
#15 Rosman(2-9) @ #2 Cherokee(9-1)-This will be the first playoff meeting between these long time rivals, since the Tigers' (14-0) 2nd round playoff win in 1992. On offense, Cherokee is averaging 40ppg on the season with a 1 point loss to Murphy as their only blemish on the 05' season.

#12 North Duplin(3-7) @ #5 South Stanly(7-4)-Had this game taken place last year; It would have been a battle between two Rebel teams. Since that time, South Stanly has changed their mascot to the Rebel Bulls. Nonetheless, North Duplin and South Stanly have not met in the subdivided 1A playoffs. In fact, North Duplin has never won a Western 1A playoff game, losing to Hobbton(30-27) in 2001 and 33-6 to East Wilkes in the first round of the 2004 1A Western playoffs.
#11 Robbinsville(3-7) @ #6 Chatham Central(5-6)-This will be the first meeting between the Bears and the Black Knights.
