VTO Sports had their sixth annual All-American Challenge at West Cabarrus High School in Concord, NC, on the weekend of July 7-9. Over 190 student-athletes attended from all over the country.
The coaching staff selected top performers in each position group with the top two players earning VTO Sports All-American honors.
Class of 2024 Landon Sargent was selected as a VTO Sports All-American at the linebacker position. The 6-foot-1, 237-pounder from Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville, NC, spoke to NCPreps.com about the event and his upcoming season.
NCPreps: What was your thoughts on the event?
SARGENT: "I loved the event honestly. Last year, I came too this camp as a defensive end and thought this year was even better at linebacker."
NCPreps: What were the best parts of the event and why?
SARGENT: "My favorite part will definitely have to be the linebacker drills. I felt like me and coach Rankin had a special type of connection. Anything he wanted me to do I got it done, fast and smooth."
NCPreps: How did you feel that you did and what are some things you need to work on?
SARGENT: "I felt like i preformed to my best, coverage is definitely one thing I need to work on.
NCPreps: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
SARGENT: "My two goals this year is to make first team all-state and lead the team in tackles again."
NCPreps: Have you went to college camps and are there any colleges reaching out to you?
SARGENT: "I have been to a plethora of college camps and have many of interest throughout the colleges on the East Coast."
NCPreps: What schools have shown you interest?
SARGENT: "Boston College, Old Dominion, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, Lenoir Rhyne, Harvard, and Bluefield State."
NCPreps: What are you looking for in a program?
SARGENT: "I'm really looking for something that feels like home. I want to be and feel comfortable when I play and having a place feel like home. I feel like that will get it done. I also want to be a 4-year starter so that is something else I look into. If i have to outwork someone then I will do so."
NCPreps: Would you advise other prospects to attend the VTO Sports camps?
SARGENT: "Yes, all the time."
