EAST HENDERSON¹S LAMB ROLLS TO VICTORY

IN NCHSAA WOMEN¹S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS AT GATES FOUR

Lamb fired a three-under 69 on a rainy, miserable Tuesday to finish with

a 136 total. That is the best 36-hole total in the history of the

tournament, eclipsing Lamb¹s own record of 138 set last year at Pinehurst.

Her 67 on Monday was the best single round ever recorded in NCHSAA women¹s

golf championship play, eclipsing her own mark she set last year with a 68

at Pinehurst number eight.

The East Henderson standout won the individual championship in an

all-classifications event in 2002, but this year the 4-A schools have their

own championship and other golfers now compete together for the other title.

Jesse Vincent of Burlington Williams and Emily Street of Chase knotted

for the runner-up spot at 152. Kandy Carland of West Henderson finished

fourth at 153.

East Henderson shot a 314 as a team and held on to win the team

championship by a single shot over Burlington Williams. Eastern Wayne was

third at 336, 22 shots off the pace. The best two scores of a four-person

team count toward the team totals.

A total of 76 golfers competed in the 23rd annual tournament.
