Clayton’s Devin Carter is starting to gain the attention of college coaches locally. Carter, a 6-4 195 wide receiver with 4.5 speed is one of North Carolina’s top receiving leaders through the first 6 weeks of the 2016 season. The junior standout has caught 46 passes for 762 yards with 14 touchdowns and is one of the main reasons the Comets are off to a 5-1 start.
Clayton Assistant Head Coach Marc Lakey has high praise for his wide receiver and stated, “Devin is an excellent student (3.5 GPA) and even better person. I have been coaching for 20 years and he is one of my favorite kids to be around. The sky is the limit with his work ethic and God-given abilities.”
NCPreps.com caught up with Carter and asked him about his season and his recruitment.
How is your season going?
“Our season is really going great so far.”
What are your strengths on the field?
“I think my speed and route running.”
What are things that you need to work on?
“Even though my route running is a strength, I can always improve them.”
What are the most important techniques a wide receiver must have?
“He has to know the game inside and out. He has to be quick and most of the time fast. A WR has to be explosive and very athletic.”
Have you gotten any recruiting interest?
“Yes. I have had some schools contact me.”
What schools have contacted you and do you plan to make any visits?
“UNC, Duke, NC State, Western Carolina, and Old Dominion are the schools that are in contact with me. I have visited UNC and Duke. I plan to visit more schools.”
What do you like about UNC?
“I like that it isn’t too far from home and that the environment is very welcoming. It feels like a great place to be and seems like everyone is happy there.”
What do you like about Duke?
“I also like the fast that Duke isn’t far from home either. It has an excellent level of education and standards there that are held high. I like the coaching techniques at Duke.”
What are some things that you are looking for in a college?
“I’m just looking for an offense that fits me and a school that has great coaches. Most of all, a successful team and a place to call home.”
If you had a dream school, where would you want to play?
“It would be Clemson.”
Who is your favorite football player and why?
“Deandre Hopkins is my favorite because he is an explosive player and he can make a play at any moment.”
