This feature will take a look at the games involving the Greater Metro 4A, Central Piedmont 4A, South Piedmont 3A, Central Carolina 1A/2A, and Yadkin Valley 1A/2A Conferences.
Let's take a look at Week 3 of the 2022 North Carolina high school football season.
Don's Specials this week are:
In the Greater Metro 4A, Statesville (1-1) travels to Lake Norman (2-0).
Statesville is the reigning Western Foothills 2021 champions and Rydell Cowan replaces Randall Gusler as head coach of the Greyhounds. They will have to replace leading rusher JZ Harrison-Connor. QB Gino Kearns will guide the Greyhounds with his main receivers Tytis Myers and Steven Smith as his main targets. Senior DL Kelyn Watts, LB Joseph Nixon, LB Jacquez Robinson, and DB Keldron Dukes anchors the defense.
Lake Norman returns 14 starters with 8 on offense and 6 on defense from a group that went 8-4 and lost in the second round in 2021. They are led offensively by senior RBs Ryan Peacock, who was all-conference and Chase Wigginton. OL Matthew Hynes, an all-conference player and Liam Courtney. will also be top players. Lake Norman will be a handful and should have good year. Defensively seniors Jack Baker, an all-conference FS, DL JaWayne Torrence. and junior LB Tate Smith will lead the defense.

In the Central Piedmont 4A, Weddington (1-1) travels to West Forsyth (0-2).
Weddington opened up with two private school powerhouses by winning in OT against Charlotte Christian and losing to Providence Day. They will be looking to rebound against 4A West Forsyth. The Warriors have no problems scoring as they average 35 points per game. It's the defense that has giving up 90 points in their two games.
West Forsyth offense is struggling on the offense side of the ball by only scoring 14 points in two games. The defense has given up 60 points. They have played 4A AC Reynolds and 3A Oak Grove. The Titans look to get started in the right direction as they play a tough 4A Weddington at home.

In the Central Carolina 1A/2A, 2A West Davidson (1-1) travels to 3A Central Davidson (2-0).
Central Davidson entered the game winning their first two games beating 2A Lexington and 2A Randleman. The Spartans behind the running of Corben Miller are averaging 44 points a game. The defense is led by LB Peyton Melton. That defense has been outstanding shutting out Lexington and holding a strong Randleman team to 21 points while the offense was clicking and scored 46 points.
West Davidson after squeaking by 2A Wheatmore in the first game, the Dragons played 3A Ledford. Ledford outmatched West Davidson by winning going away 57-7. In the win over Wheatmore, Joesph Baker scored 3 touchdowns while gaining 194 yards rushing.

In the Yadkin Valley 1A/2A, West Stanly (2-0) travels to Mount Pleasant (2A) (2-0),
The Colts of West Stanly have started the season with two impressive wins against two 1A opponents. They shut out South Stanly and held the Albemarle Bulldogs to 6 points at home. West Stanly travels to Mount Pleasant for week 3. The defense is led by Sawyer Gibbs and Rene Salazar. By playing a tough team like Mount Pleasant both Gibbs and Salazar will be tested.
Mount Pleasant started the season playing 3A Central Cabarrus and 3A Jesse Carson and winning both games. This week, the Tigers play West Stanly at home. The Tigers are led by Senior Keegan Moose, the Yadkin Valley 1A/2A Conference Special Teams POY. Keandre Stedford will be at running back and will be a force to reckon with. On defense, junior LB Dylan Culp and junior S Bo Barbee will be called upon to stop the West Stanly Colts.
