On Saturday, the Greenfield Knights took down the Fayetteville Christian Warriors 87-61 in a game that was marked by two contrasting styles.
Coming into this game after a long break due to COVID, Greenfield was looking to get the season back on track as they hosted the Warriors. It was the first competition for Greenfield in 30 days.
The game was very close and operated at a slow pace in the first half. Fayetteville Christian was running their game plan and took advantage of the Knights rusty start.
With a freshman duo of Hampton Evans and Jordan Vick, the Knights were able to pick up the tempo in the second half. Aaron Murphy, a 2022 wing, added energy and explosive plays to help lead the team. Also, the scrappy Greenfield bench went on a run led by 2023 Tychaun Clay and 2021 Justin Holland.
Despite the loss, Fayetteville Christian played a great game keeping it close for 3 quarters. Big man Javonnie Baker, a 6’7 2021 forward, was aided by the stellar guard duo in Tomas Stevens (2021) and Brian Thompson (2022). The Warriors are going to be a very sneaky good team out of the 910.
Overall this was a great game for two teams with very different playing styles. In the end, Greenfield’s youth and speed was too much as they went on a 30-13 run in the 4th quarter. Both teams will represent themselves well as the season continues.
