Lucas Taylor Commits to Clemson

Clemson picked up their third commitment of 2021 today when 6’6” Lucas Taylor of Wake Forest, NC/Heritage High committed to the Tigers. Taylor joins South Carolina guard Josh Beadle and Georgia forward Ian Schieffelin in the class.

Taylor picked Clemson over 30+ offers that included the likes of Marquette, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Georgia and others.

What he Said:

As a Player: “I am an all-around type of scorer; I score at all three levels. Being able to defensively use my length, being versatile.

Why Clemson: “I think the fit there is really good, the way they run their offense, the stagger screens just fits me as a scorer. It’s close to home which played a factor, my family can come and see me.”

What His Coach Said:

“Lucas has made a huge impact during his time as a player at Heritage. He’s a 1000 point scorer, was a state champion finalist, and a conference player of the year winner. Lucas’s skill set will translate well to the college game. Off the court, Lucas is an exception student and teammate. No matter where the game of basketball takes him, he will be successful. His work ethic is D1 and has been the thing that separates him most amongst his peers.” -Heritage High Coach Tilden Brill

Why We Like Taylor:

No matter who you ask about Lucas Taylor, they mention his scoring ability. Last season he averaged 21.6 points on 49% from the field. He shot 39% from 3 on 66 makes with 5 boards, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game

At his best, Taylor is a shot maker, and at its core, this is one of the most valuable traits to have in basketball. He has great positional size to go with good length and nice athleticism. Taylor is a noted tireless worker who continues to improve on, and work on his craft. As he continues to fine tune his footwork and learn his spots on the floor, he will only become more lethal as a player and scorer.
