Providence Day won the NCISAA Division 1 State Championship by defeating Charlotte Christian by a score of 55-13. The Chargers who are coached by Chad Grier, finished their 2022 season at 12-1.

NCPreps.con caught up with Coach Grier and he had the following to say about his team.

“We are obviously very proud of what our kids accomplished this season. But we are most proud of the work they put in both individually and collectively to earn success!It's cliche to talk about the process, but that's really what our program is all about. There is a defined culture and process that the kids bought into and took ownership of.

“In fact, we started our 2023 season on Monday by remembering the process and what it takes to achieve the success that our 2022 team enjoyed.”

“Our offense gets a lot of attention, and deservedly so. We averaged 44 a game and 54 in the playoffs. We threw for more than 3500 yards and ran for about 2000. We had 9 different players score offensive touchdowns, 6 different players caught at least 2 TDs and 5 different players scored on the ground.But what made this team special was how good we were in all 3 phases.”

“Our defense was very underrated giving up only 14 points per game for the season and only 11 in the playoffs. They play a lot of possessions given how often our O scores. We created 24 turnovers, had 25 sacks and 50 QB hurries mostly in a base scheme.”

“Our kicking game was the best I've ever had. Jake Porter and Sydney McCorkle gave us 2 excellent options. They combined for 90% on extra points and 5-6 on Field Goals. Porter had 48 Touchbacks including a streak of 18 in a row. Our Long Snapper (and LB and TE/H) Liam Groulx was perfect on 84 placekicking snaps and 18 Punts.”

“We beat 4 of the top 18 teams in the state in the Max Preps rankings, won back-to-back State Championships and the most games (12) in a season in school history.”
