Lincolnton (NC) wide receiver Sage Surratt verbally committed to play football at Wake Forest on Tuesday. The 6’5 210 senior picked the Demon Deacons after officially visiting the campus this past weekend. Surratt originally verbally committed to Harvard back in the Fall, but decided to re-open his recruitment. The senior wanted to focus on staying closer to home and had narrowed his choices to local ACC schools of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Duke.

Recently, Surratt was named to the AP and NCPreps.com All-State teams, AP Offensive NC Player of the Year, and MaxPreps.com Small School All-American team. He finished his senior season by finishing with 129 receptions for 2,102 yards with 28 touchdowns. Surratt also finished his career as North Carolina’s all-time receiving leader in receptions (366), yards (5,924), and touchdowns (80).

How was your trip to Wake Forest?

“I really enjoyed my visit to Wake Forest this past weekend. Coach Clawson and his staff showed me everything Wake has to offer its student-athletes. The amount of personal attention the student-athletes receive in the classroom at Wake is incredible.”

Why did you decide to commit to Wake Forest?

“I’ve decided to commit to Wake Forest because it gave me the best opportunity to focus on academics and play Power 5 football.”

What are your thoughts on the coaching staff?

“All the coaches, especially Coach Higgins and Coach Ruggiero made me feel like I belong there. Coach Higgins has so much experience that I’m certain he will be an exceptional position coach.”

What are their plans for you?

“They plan to use me primarily as an outside receiver.”

What do you like about the campus?

“The campus has grown so much in the past few years and the new indoor facility is very impressive.

What do you plan to major in?

“My plans are to major in either economics or accounting since their business school is one of the best in the country.”

What can Wake fans expect from Sage Surratt?

“Wake fans can expect me to give my very best on the field and in the classroom. My job is to be coachable, be prepared to play, and do whatever is required of me to help Wake Forest win games and be a good representative for the university.”
