PLAYER OF THE YEAR
RB Toney Baker - Ragsdale
Senior RB Toney Baker of Ragsdale finished his high school career as North Carolina's top career rusher with over 10,000 yards. Baker, a 4-year starter for the Tigers, finished the 2004 season with 3,031 yards and 33 touchdowns. Baker has not officially declared what university that he plans to attend, but he plans to announce at the halftime of the US Army's All-American Bowl in Texas.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Donnie Kiefer – East Carteret
Coach Kiefer has been a winner wherever he goes. He has a track record of making a winner out of a losing program. After rebuilding programs at Gates County, Andrews, Hibriten, and Roanoke he went to East Carteret this season. The Mariners finished at 2-9 last year and had won only five games in four years. This season, under the direction of Coach Kiefer, they improved to 11-4 and went to the fourth round of the state playoffs. They beat #1 seed Bunn at Bunn (undefeated at the time) in the second round and then Northside at NS in the third round before losing to State Champ SW Onslow in the Eastern Finals. Not only is Coach Kiefer one of the state's most productive coaches, but he is also a great role model for everyone that he comes in contact with. Our hats are off to this year's Coach-of-the-Year winner.
