Holton Ahlers, a 6-4 235-pound quarterback from Greenville (NC) DH Conley High School is ready for his upcoming junior season. The Viking standout passed for 2,457 yards with 27 touchdowns and ran for 1,142 yards with 15 touchdowns. He has 2 scholarship offers from East Carolina and NC State.

NCPreps.com caught up with Ahlers and he had the following comments about recruiting and his 2016 season.

Who is currently recruiting you?

"East Carolina, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Florida, and Penn State."

What are your expectations for the season as things tip off this week?

"We hope to reach our full potential as a team which I believe is to win a state championship."

How does the team look so far?

"We look great. We have a lot of returning players with big time experience."

What things have you been working on in the off season to improve your game?

"My quick release. Last year, I had a slow long release and I think I've improved that dramatically."

What NFL QB would you say you model your game after?

"Cam Newton. I'm a hard physical runner, who can throw as well."

What is your dream college?

"Tennessee"

When it comes to calling plays how much freedom does your coach give you?

"I'm allowed to audible quick game, but I trust him to give us the right play and put us in good situations."

Who is the biggest influence in your life?

"My family and God."

Who are some of the guys on the team that your mostly hang out with off the field?

"My lineman most definitely."

Which game are you looking forward to the most?

"The Rose game is always a great game, but the next game is the most important."

What was your GPA this past school year?

"3.9"

Why should colleges recruit you?

"I won't be out-worked. I'm the first one there and last one to leave."

Have you been to any football combines or QB camps this off-season?

"Yes. I went to The Opening, plus I went to camps and visited Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Virginia, and NC State."

What makes you a leader?

"I care more about the teams' success than I do my own. The team always comes before me."
